Wide Belt Sanders are larger industrial belt sanders with widths 13 inches or more. Use them to sand wood and composite boards such as MDF and plywood to a specified thickness and finish. Some examples of use for a wide belt sander are to sand rough surfaces smooth, prepare wood surfaces for coatings, level uneven pieces of wood or strip coatings such as varnish or paint from a wood surface.
As a piece of wood passes through the machine, the sanding belt removes a wide section of material from the top surface. A big advantage of a wide belt sander is the ability to change a sanding belt fairly quickly compared to other sanders by simply releasing the tension on the belt, slipping the used belt off and then putting a new belt on.
