A power feeder is an accessory for saws that, when properly setup, consistently and reliably feeds wood through a saw blade safely and without kickbacks. This tool minimizes a woodworker’s chance for injury from repetitively pushing wood pieces through a power saw as the feeder grabs the wood piece, holds it firmly and moves it through the saw blade without additional user effort. Feeders improve safety in several ways including reducing repetitive movement injuries and protecting fingers from moving blades. They also improve quality through consistent movement of a piece through a blade. Feeders are available for a variety of uses including band saws, shapers, table saws, jointers, and combination machines.
Conveyer systems are material handling equipment used to move large loads efficiently from one point to another with minimum effort on rollers, belts or suspended from tracks. Horizontal conveyers move pieces along a flat horizontal path and overhead conveyers hang pieces in the air and move them along a track.
Another type of conveyer is a return conveyer that works in conjunction with a second woodworking machine such as an edgebander, sander or rip saw. A return conveyer allows a single operator to feed work pieces through the beginning of a machine and then, once it reaches the end, the piece is moved to the return conveyer which brings the piece back to the starting point eliminating the need for a second worker to receive the piece after it exits a machine.
